MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE
The Lymphatic System is
composed of numerous vessels throughout the body
which carry waste products and excess water or
lymph fluids. All lymph fluid passes through
the lymph nodes, which are located in the neck,
armpits, groin, pelvic area, along the windpipe,
behind the abdominal cavity, and near the lungs
and intestines.
A thickened, stagnant
lymphatic system overloaded with toxic waste is
the ideal condition for the onset of numerous
illnesses.
"The Lymphatic System is the
foundation of our immune system. Not only is
Lymphatic Drainage a key to disease prevention
and rejuvenation, but also the means to reverse
and contribute to the natural healing process of
the human system. It aids in detoxification,
the recovery of illness, and weight and inch
loss."
Manual lymphatic drainage
differs from ordinary massage - it is very
gentle and aims to encourage the movement of
lymph fluids away from swollen areas. MLD is
particularly useful if there is swelling in the
legs or elsewhere on the trunk. As this is a
specialized form of massage, it should be given
only by a trained therapist.
