Beaches
The Algarve beaches are as diverse as the regions along
the Algarve coast. Around Lagos you will find wide sandy
beaches with dunes. In and around Sagres and the Western
Algarve and up the west coast as far as the Alentejo you
will also find beautiful deserted beaches.
Here they are backed in spectacular fashion, by high
cliffs and rock formations. There are always fresh
breezes and the sea along these beaches is rough and
impressive- the sound of the waves rolling in, the
breeze, the sand and the countryside!
From Sagres eastwards there are beaches framed with red
or yellow limestone cliffs up to 70m high which are much
more romantic. In and around Lagos you will find the
“picture book” beaches of Porto de Mós and Praia Dona
Ana. East of Lagos the 7km long sandy beach Meia Praia
backed by sand dunes. There are many other lesser known
and barely discovered beaches with clear blue water well
worth searching out. |
