Algarve beaches
Algarve beaches are the most beautiful in Europe and they differ from each other just like the different landscapes.
In the
Western coast near Lagos there are many
beautiful, with sandy beaches with dunes. In
Sagres and along the Western coast as far as
Alentejo beautiful, deserted beaches are backed
with spectacular high cliffs and rock
formations. Here the sea is majestic and
impressive.
Beliche is
the most southwest beach in Europe. Somewhat
secluded, it is located between Sagres and the
São Vicente Cape. Carrapateira is a long, wide
beach with magnificent dunes on the wild coast
between Sagres and Aljezur. Here the Atlantic is
never calm but there’s a lovely lagoon to bathe
in.
From Sagres
eastwards there are many romantic beaches framed
with red and yellow limestone cliffs up to 70m
high.
In the
vicinity of Lagos the romantic beach of Porto de
Mós is the favourite. Walking along its red and
golden cliffs to Praia da Luz is a wonderful
experience. The small beach of Praia da Batata
is the closest to the centre of Lagos and the
beach of Praia Dona Ana tends to be very
popular. The beautiful and quiet beach of Praia
do Camilo is known for its beautiful sculpted
rocks emerging from the clear waters and
labyrinth grottos. East of Lagos, the 7km long
sandy beach of Meia Praia is backed by sand
dunes, curving around the edge of the bay all
the way from the Marina to the river estuary at
Alvor.
In the Lagos
vicinity, the beautiful beaches of Praia do
Zavial and of Praia da Ingrina are a surfer’s
paradise and are popular with scuba divers and
snorkellers. |
